A Letter to my Soon-to-Be Son

Reference.com

To some, this may be an odd letter to write, especially because I've never met you. However, just because I've never met you does not mean I don't know who you are, and what you will become.

You are loved by so many people already. There are so many who are patiently, excitedly, and anxiously awaiting your arrival. You will never have to worry whether or not you are loved as long as you're alive.

You will be smart. No matter if you inherit my book smarts or your dad's intuition, you will never run out of things to learn, places to discover, or lose your appetite for knowledge. If you're anything like the both of us, you'll crave information, and you'll know how to distribute it appropriately. It's totally okay if you don't what you want to do with your life, as long as you know you've given yourself a chance to explore the world around you.

You will have resources. We all go through ups and downs in our lives. Sometimes, though, it may seem like your downs completely outshine the ups. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and tons of people are willing to walk with you until you find it. It's okay to express yourself and how you feel, as long as it doesn't hurt yourself or others. And if you don't know how to express those emotions, we will always be here to guide you along the way. Never be afraid to ask for help.

You will be handsome, and good enough. One day, you'll find someone that makes you completely question your understanding of life. You will fall in love- and then it will end. Yeah, it feels like the end of the world. But whoever this person is, they will be the first stepping stone on your journey to find the one. Don't ever feel like, because it didn't work out, that you don't deserve love. The feelings of heartbreak will wear off eventually, and when it does, you will be much a much stronger and more refined version of you. It's okay to ask for help if you don't know how to cope in the meantime.

You will have questions. You will actually question everything, to the point where it makes you uncomfortable. You'll notice plenty of times in your lifetime that you'll have more questions than answers. It's completely normal, even though it feels so unnatural. These moments in life are crucial to your growth, as a human being. In fact- enjoy this time. There's something incredibly freeing knowing that you can't control everything and have all the answers.

You will have fun. Although, if you're anything like us, sometimes you'll have a lot of fun. It will take you a while, actually, to figure out when you're having too much fun. We've both been there, and I know you will be too. I will try my hardest to remain realistic about it. As long as you're honest with us and honest with yourself, we can come to an understanding. But please, always remember to stay safe. You may feel invincible, but you're certainly not.

Until I get to formally meet you, I will stick with this advice, because I know all of this is certain. Unfortunately, nature and nurture stands by all of these, so you can count on all of this! It's not a bad thing, I promise.
Until then, I already love you to the moon and back.

Ch-ch-ch-Changes

It's been a while since I made an update on here. Like, as in 2 years. However, I feel as if it is very important to document major aspects of my life, as well as share every ounce of new knowledge I gain as I venture on into the next chapters of my life. So that, my friends, is why I am reviving She Dreams in Color! Within the next year, I will be graduating college, moving on to graduate school, and becoming a mother.

Yeah.

So, SDIC deserves a makeover and some extra love, well equipped and tailored to my new developments.

Stay tuned!
